LOCAL GOVERNMENT ROLE IN TRANSPORTATION STRATEGY

All levels of government are involved in transportation. State and Federal governments are often seen as the major players, but Local Government (Cities, Shires, Municipalities) in fact bear a substantial part of the cost of providing and maintaining transport infrastructure (mainly roads) and bearing many indirect costs resulting from transport industry operations.

Balance Research wishes to encourage local government to recognise the part it could play in working with the other levels to ensure that future growth in transport demand does not flow automatically to road.
